Dave Card Wants Papers on Model Based Software Testing for JSS Special Issue.
Model-based software testing,
as the name implies,
involves creating a functional model of the "software system under test"
that is built in a way that makes it easy to create strong, realistic tests.
In turn, these tests -- once they have been found to PASS on the model --
ought to PASS on the actual system.
Ought to is the key word here, and if such tests don't pass then you know
you have a problem.
This is a simple enough idea but achieving good results in practice has
been elusive, at best, and frustrating, at worst.
Even so, the results are promising enough that there is an active
community of researchers and experimenters who are working on advancing
this technology.
