Site Analysis Preferences | |
Menu Text | Explanation |
Links of Type... | This section of the eValid Site Analysis Preferences menu helps you decide how you want eValid to select links in the Site Analysis run. |
Search for All Links | If you choose this option eValid will look at pages with ALL EXTENSIONS and use all BROWSER PROTOCOLS. |
Search with Limitations | If you choose this option, eValid will search according to both the set of Extensions/Query types you select and also by the Protocols that you select. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
Limit By Extension/Query | You can select files to include in your Site Analysis by specifying their extension and/or by specifying $NAME=VALUE pairs. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
Limit By Protocols | You can select the specific protocols you wish to include. The default BROWSER PROTOCOLS instructs eValid to use all available protocols. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
Do not visit off-site links | If you choose this option then eValid will not visit any pages that are linked from a page within the search that don't match the Domain(s) you have specified. |
Exclude URLs File | This file gives you a place where you can specify the strings that you want eValid to not visit. The exclusions are done based on whether a string you specify is found anywhere in the page URL. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
Domains | This section helps you understand the domains that are considered part of your eValid Site Analysis run. |
Site/Subsite to Search (from current page) | This shows the base page from which the search will start. Only pages that are part of this page or part of the sub-website below it are included in the search. |
Include Sites/Subsites (comma separated list) | Additional domains are included in the search if they are listed here. |
Save Include Site List | Saves your current Include Site list to a file for later use. The file name is remembered as part of your User Profile. |
Limit by... | This section helps you decide how to limit the Site Analysis, or you can choose to set no limits. |
Depth | Sets the maximum depth -- measured from the starting URL -- of the Site Analysis search. |
Time (mins) | Sets the maximum time -- in elapsed minutes -- of the Site Analysis search. |
Num. Links | Sets the maximum number of links to handle in the Site Analysis search. |
Num. URLs | Sets the maximum number of URLs (web pages) to handle in the Site Analysis search. |
Control | The options affect how the Site Analysis run is performed and help you select important options that determine how eValid behaves during the run. |
Background Mode (Quick) | The fastest Site Analysis execution mode. Pages are downloaded and scanned quickly, and images are checked for availability. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
Background Mode (Normal) | This is the normal mode for Site Analysis runs. Pages are fully analyzed and images are checked for availability. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
Full Browser Mode | This is the most powerful Site Analysis mode. Pages are fully downloaded and rendered, all images are downloaded and rendered, and the page is fully scanned for dynamic behavior (e.g. in JavaScript) that might not otherwise be checked. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
Display Startup Dialog Box | If you choose this option eValid will show you a dialog box before starting the search. This will give you an opportunity to arrange eValid's report and other windows on the screen to the most convenient locations. |
Skip Top Page Refresh | If you choose this option, eValid will not update the starting page. |
Always Hold Focus | In Full Browser Mode operation, you can choose to have eValid always hold window focus (this is the preferred setting), or you can turn this feature off so you can use the desktop during your search. |
Auto-close New Browser Windows | During Full Browser Mode operation, eValid can automatically close all new-window popups (this is the preferred setting). If you don't choose this option and eValid visits a page that asks for your attention for some reason the search will stop until you handle the popup. |
Reports | This section affects how eValid Site Analysis reports are handled. |
Prompt to Save Site Analysis Reports | At the end of a Site Analysis you can tell eValid to prompt you before you close the report windows. |
Limit Each Report to the First "NN" Items | When you select this option, and specify a number of items, the on-screen Site Analysis reports are limited to showing the first NN items (the total number of instances is still shown in all reports). |
Status Window | These options affect the real-time Site Analysis Status Window. |
Display Status Window | If you select this option eValid will show the status window and keep it updated as your Site Analysis run continues. |
Auto-close Status Window | If you select this option eValid will close the status window from the current Site Analysis run after a specified time. |
After "xx" mins | This specifies how long you want the Site Analysis Status Window to remain on the screen before it is automatically deleted. |
Cache Control | You can decide whether to run with your current cache, an initially empty cache, or no cache at all. |
Delete Cache on Start | If you choose this option eValid will delete the current contents of the cache before starting the Site Analysis run. |
Never Use Cache | If you choose this option then eValid will do the Site Analysis run without using the cache. This means that if a page is referenced multiple times it will be re-downloaded each time. |
Define Filters .. | If you click on this button eValid will bring up the Site Analysis Filters menu. |
User Profiles... | You can save all of your settings for a particular search in a named User Profile using this button. (See product documentation for a complete explanation of this option.) |
