Synopsis
The eValid Playback Only Browser is intended for use in load testing when a minimum footprint version of eValid is required. Using the eValid Playback Only Browser will assist in maximizing the number of eValid copies that can run on one machine.

Product Characteristics
The eValid Playback Only Browser is a complete eValid implementation but only supports playback of eValid scripts. evalidP.exe. has the ability to open a regular script for playback (e.g. for monitoring purposes) and the ability to launch a LoadTest script (which can in turn launch multiple evalidT.exe instances).

• Full Script Support.. The full eValid script language is supported at the PROF feature key level in the eValid Playback Only Browser.

• Limited Controls. The eValid Playback Only Browser, evalidP.exe. has limited controls and options. The eValid Playback Only Browser permits you to open a script file (either a regular eValid script or an eValid LoadTest script) and run in in continuous or single-step mode. See the Sample Screen, which shows eValidP after a script has been loaded.

• Smaller Footprint. The eValid Playback Only Browser typically has a footprint smaller than the eValid browser. During execution the eValid Playback Only Browser will generally consume significantly less memory if scripts are run multiple times. How many copies of the eValid Playback Only Browser will run depends on the specifics of the machine and its OS settings. Early indications are that there will be an improvement of as much as 66%.

• Script Errors. It is a good practice to make sure that the script file has been confirmed on a full eValid browser. The eValid Playback Only Browser will parse the script file before playing it back and script errors will prevent playback. There is no script editing capability in the eValid Playback Only Browser.

• Batch Mode Switches. All batch mode switches are available. This means that the special switches used by eValid LoadTest scripts are available to alter the type of log file processing done when this version is used during multi-browser playback.

• LoadTest Operation. In a LoadTest script there are three possible playback modes that choose betweeen the three available levels of playback fidelity.

  • The LoadType FULL command (the default setting) instructs eValid (evalid.exe) to use the full eValids for playback.

  • The LoadType THIN command instructs eValid to use the eValid Playback Only Thin Browser (evalidT.exe) component for playback.

  • The LoadType LITE command instructs eValid to use eVlites (evlite.exe) for playback.

• Log File Production.
  All log file production is the same as with the full eValid browser. Note however, that when used in a LoadTest application the event logging is reduced to only that required for the LoadTest logs.

• Required Feature Key.
  The eValidP.exe executable requires the PLAY feature key.
