Press Release: For Immediate Release — SAN FRANCISCO, CA — 1 June 2009 — Software Research, Inc. has announced a major breakthrough in its eValid™ based PerformanceTest™ server loading service for AJAX-based web applications. Using multiple instances of the eValid test-enabled web browser on compute-cloud-based resources, eValid's PerformanceTest fixed-price service can generate server load of up to 40,000 users in sustained tests that last many hours, at low cost. For businesses like retailers, broadcasters, advertisers, or social networks, it is critical to deliver content without delay or disruption to audiences around the world. Verifying the performance and quality issues as experienced by the end-user, in real time, is a serious asset, not a luxury. It is important that such services be affordable.

"In today's economy, money talks. For a company, getting their costs down to under $1 per applied-browser-hour for realistic testing might just be the tipping point. No valuable time is spent on learning tools or systems. Just on delivering quality products faster at reduced costs. Clients select the plan that fits their needs. We conduct phone interviews and generate all the server load tests of their application remotely. In some configurations, we even can get load generation costs below 25¢ per browser hour. We want our customers to benefit from the efficiency and accuracy characteristic of the eValid test engine," said Edward Miller, President of Software Research and Chief Architect of eValid.     eValid - Multiple Browsers Playback Illustration

These results apply to a wide range of web applications, but are specifically relevant for AJAX applications. eValid's architecture is based on direct execution of action commands — not on use of JavaScript playbacks. The minimum of 100+ real browsers per machine image easily beats systems that rely on JavaScript, which usually can field less than 10 browser instances per machine image.

The way eValid achieves such excellent results is through the combination of scalability of the eValid product itself, and the scalability of the compute-cloud. Every machine instance is good for or 100+ simultaneous browser-playback-based emulated users (EUs), or up to 10,000 virtual users (VUs). By organizing the test scenarios in a fixed-format 15-minute per ramp up step, the server being stressed sees increasing loads that have enough time to stabilize into true "white noise". This is the most realistic type of server load because it accurately represents the real world effects.

"AJAX is dynamic in nature, and test results will be affected by how fast/slow the server downloads the dynamic parts of a web page. This asynchrony creates problems, which are aggravated in the cloud environment. Any online business needs insight in how their customers — the end-users — experience their online performance. The only way to get realistic load performance data is through the use of a real browser based testing system. It's time to let the cat out of the bag: real browser based testing only gives you real performance data. That's eValid's advantage", Miller concluded.
